Acronym: IGLOO

Name: IMU & GNSS VEHICLE ODOMETRY

Object: Development of a new odometric sensor based on a GNSS receiver and an inertial platform (IMU)

Project description

The IGLOO project aims at developing a new odometric sensor based on a GNSS receiver, a 6-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU) and a dynamic model of the train, capable of delivering a speed based on information from navigation satellites. This sensor will have to be integrated into an on-board subsystem ERTMS (European Rail Traffic Management System). The performance of the sensor will be validated through comprehensive testing under real operational conditions.

Our participation in the project

M3 Systems is the project leader and brings its expertise in GNSS/IMU hybridisation. The main task is the design of the embedded hybridisation software as well as its validation. To analyse the data collected on trains, M3 Systems uses GNSS simulation and signal processing tools.

Results of the project

Currently, M3 Systems is developing a data collection tool, MultiPDR, which will be used to record data from various inertial units, as well as GNSS signals. Long-term data collection on trains is planned for the end of 2019. These will be used to:

  • Select the prototype’s inertial control unit;
  • Validate the required performances;
  • Provide data to optimise and calibrate the sensor.
